Advising MAN Truck & Bus on the Transition to Electromobility

We supported MAN Truck & Bus in its strategic planning and investment decision-making process related to electromobility and the production of new components. Our support included strategic legal and regulatory advice, combined with conducting complex discussions with representatives of public administration.

Navigating a complex transformation together

MAN is entering the next stage of its transformation in Poland, including activities in the area of truck batteries, the expansion of its existing plant, and the production of new components that have not previously been manufactured in Niepołomice. This is an important step for the Polish part of the MAN Group and confirms the plant’s strong position within the Group’s global structure.

For more than 2.5 years, we supported this process from both a strategic and legal perspective, providing the Group with expertise in state aid and competition law.

Our work included complex, multi-scenario legal analyses concerning the feasibility and implementation of the process, as well as the preparation of regulatory and business arguments. At the same time, we participated in discussions with representatives of central government, government agencies, and local authorities. Ultimately, we were responsible for preparing support applications for three investments carried out in parallel.

One of the key challenges was conducting part of the work based on instruments that were still being developed or were undergoing changes, including the CISAF programme supporting a low-emission economy. This required not only an excellent understanding of competition law and state aid regulations, but also the ability to translate that knowledge into complex regulatory requirements.

The culmination of several years of our joint work was a ceremony in Niepołomice, during which members of the MAN Management Board, Aleksander Vlaskamp and Michael Kobriger, together with the Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domański, signed a memorandum. During the event, the fully electric eTGL truck was presented in Poland for the first time. It was an opportunity to celebrate this success together with everyone who contributed to it.

Value that endures

MAN Truck & Bus has announced the next stage of the factory’s expansion. The PLN 5 billion MAN investment in Niepołomice is the result of successful cooperation between business, government, local authorities and development institutions.

We wish the company every success in its future activities and congratulate the team that led the project with great consistency and dedication: Magdalena Tyrakowska-Szymczak, Jacek Łuczyński, Bartosz Jeziorski, Konrad Kowalski, Dominik Jędrak, Katarzyna Martyn, and Sandra Mrzygłód.

Projects like this remain memorable not only because of their scale, but also because of their pace, the number of twists and turns along the way, and the experience that stays with us long after their completion.
